In this, and the piece titled "Andy's Meadow", I've gone back to a style begun two years ago, of minimal color use, heavy line work, and one subject whose emotions are expressed entirely by the background. I've realized since then, that my real fascination with minimal color use is to allow the majority of the composition's impact be let up to the over-all negative space. So in these two recent pieces, I've cut down on the line work and composed the weight and structure of the subjects by not drawing them, with exception of their facial features. |
